Nimbuzz is a mobile social messenger, combining instant messaging, (geo) presence, and VoIP. The free application is available on the mobile, PC and Web, for instant messaging, location sharing, (group) calling, (group) chat, and file sharing across popular communities, including Skype, Windows Live Messenger (MSN), Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, Google Talk, AIM, GaduGadu, Jabber and Twitter, plus 23 social networks including Facebook and MySpace. Nimbuzz was founded in 2006 by Evert Jaap Lugt and Martin Smink.

In the 1^st round of funding the company received an investment of US $10 million from Mangrove Capital Partners (Skype), MIH Group(QQ, Mail.ru, GaduGadu) and Holtzbrinck Ventures (StudiVZ, Kyte) on May 19, 2007.
In the 2^nd round of investment Nimbuzz received an investment of US $15 million from Nasper/MIH on June 1, 2008.

Nimbuzz has its headquarters in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and has offices in São Paulo - Brazil, Córdoba - Argentina and New Delhi – India. The company has users in every country of the planet (200 countries) and it is the only mobile social messaging aggregator to ever win the prestigious Red Herring Global 100 award. Nimbuzz also won the Converged Solution category in the 2009 Mobile News Awards.

Nimbuzz Web/WAP is accessible via any internet browser on the PC (web) or mobile phone (wap) and allows users to connect to the application without downloading the software. To benefit from Nimbuzz widgets, a person needs to install either the Nimbuzz PC or Mobile versions. Nimbuzz Communicator The Nimbuzz Communicator is a widget that activates when the user creates an account and can be accessed by anyone visiting http://my.nimbuzz.com/NimbuzzID. Once posted on Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and 20 other social network sites it allows the person interacting with it to reach the widget owner for free - directly on their mobile or PC. The widget can also be posted as email signature and on websites or blogs. Nimbuzz Communicator allows anybody to call, chat, send files, send voice messages, send offline messages and buzz the widget owner for free. The features are optional and can be deactivated when needed. Nimbuzz Ringtone Factory The Ringtone Factory widget allows users to create their own customized ringtone or audio files by uploading and editing a music file up to 15Mb. The cropped audio clip can then be sent immediately to the Online Gallery on Nimbuzz Mobile. Login is possible from the widget.
